Women’s health is being focused on in a whole new way of late. Making sure that women are healthy and happy has never been more important. There are certain topics within the realm of women’s health that have gained importance in the last few years. Some of these topics are:


Breast cancer is a malignant tumour that arises in the cells of the breast. There are various kinds of breast cancer. Some of them are:

  • Ductal carcinoma in situ
  • Invasive ductal carcinoma
  • Invasive lobular carcinoma
  • Mucinous carcinoma
  • Mixed tumours
  • Medullary carcinoma
  • Inflammatory breast cancer
  • Triple negative breast cancer

Some of the symptoms of breast cancer are nipple discharges or redness, breast or nipple pain and swelling or dimpling of part of the breast. Women above the age of 40 should have annual breast cancer examinations, as it is a condition that develops in one out of every eight women in the United States.


Menopause is defined as the absence of menstrual periods for 12 months. Menopause is the time in a woman’s life when her ovaries cease to function. Some of the symptoms of menopause are:

Irregular vaginal bleeding: Some women have minimal problems with abnormal bleeding during perimenopause whereas others have unpredictable, excessive bleeding.

Hot flashes and night sweats: A hot flash is the feeling of warmth that spreads over the body, and is most pronounced in the head and chest. They are fairly common in women undergoing menopause. The menopausal hot flashes are sometimes accompanied by night sweats.

Vaginal symptoms: These include vaginal dryness, itching, irritation and/or pain during intercourse.


Pregnancy is an extremely critical time in a woman’s life. It is extremely important that she receives the correct information, care and treatment. While these vary from woman to woman, the most common signs of pregnancy are:

  • Stopped or irregular periods
  • Changes in breasts or nipples
  • Frequent urination
  • Morning sickness
  • Constant feeling of exhaustion
  • Nausea and dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Libido changes
